Horton-in-Ribblesdale father and daughter, Gavin and Abbey White, had a field day in the North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) show classes at Gargrave Show, the highlight of their multiple successes being the supreme champion single Mule gimmer lamb, later crowned reserve interbreed champion.

The Whites, who run Ribblesdale Bluefaced Leicesters, also stood first in two further show classes – the best pen of six Mule gimmer lambs and aged BFL ram with three Mule gimmer lambs, all sired by N1 Ribblesdale, the latter going on receive the champion’s rosette in the NEMSA Skipton Branch Progeny Show.

For good measure, the Whites, who will have tup lambs sired by N1 and out of his mother for sale this back end, also finished both second and third in the pairs of Mule gimmer lambs show class.

Father and son show judges, Robert and Matthew Emmott, Wythop Hall, Cockermouth, adjudicating in memory of their late father and grandfather, George, from Steeton, awarded the reserve championship to the second prize single Mule gimmer lamb from the Threshfield-based Kitching farming family, who themselves won two show classes - pair of Mule gimmer lambs and BFL shearling ram with three Mule gimmer progeny, plus third prize tickets with their pen of six Mule gimmer lambs and three Mule gimmers by the same sire.

Draughton husband and wife, Joe and Nancy Throup, picked up four prizes, finishing runners-up in both the pen of six and aged BFL ram with three Mule gimmer progeny classes, and third with their single Mule gimmer lamb and BFL shearling ram with three Mule gimmers.

The Mason family, Oddacres, Embsay, won the show class for a trio of Mule gimmers by the same sire, followed in second place by the Appletreewick-based Walkers, who also stood runners-up in the BFL shearling ram with three Mule gimmer progeny show class, the prize winners completed by a third place in the aged BFL ram with three Mule gimmer progeny class for Kevin Wilson and family, Blubberhouses.
